  • Association Of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) This site provides general information about allopathic medicine (MD degree), including links to the US allopathic schools.
  • American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS) This site provides information about and access to the on-line application used for all of the osteopathic medical schools.
  • American Medical Student Association (AMSA) This site provides useful information to pre-medical and allopathic medical students.
  • Interview Information This site will give you a lot of information about medical schools as well as feedback from med school applicants about their interviews and the schools/curricula/student bodies, etc. The interview information may be very helpful, but you are cautioned to be aware that “quality control” varies quite a bit on this site. If something seems off, it probably is.

  • Student Osteopathic Medical Association(SOMA) This site provides osteopathic medical students with lots of useful information.
  • Texas Medical & Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS) This site provides the entry point to information about and the application for 7 of the 8 medical schools in Texas (Baylor is not included).

General Interest, Issues, Opportunities

  • Physician Shortage Area Program– This site describes a special program with Jefferson Medical College for students interested in a career in small town/rural family medicine. Allegheny students who fit the criteria for this program receive preferential treatment in the admissions process.
  • Sports Medicine – This is the web site of the American College of Sports Medicine and contains a wide variety of information about the field of sports medicine.
  • Virtual Mentor – The on-line ethics journal of the AMA, this site has case studies in medical ethics and other articles on ethics and professionalism in medicine.

  • American Dental Association (ADA) This site provides information about the DAT, the test required of all dental applicants.
  • American Student Dental Association (ASDA) This site has good information for pre-dental students concerning dental school admission and financial aid.
  • AADSAS This site links you to the on-line dental application via the ADEA website.
  • Scholarware DAT Review This test prep company provides a good CD-ROM review for the DAT, a test that is only given on computer.
  • Texas Medical & Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS) This site provides the entry point to information about and the application for all 3 dental schools in Texas.

  • Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association APAMSA is a national organization that aims to address those issues important to Asian-American medical students.
  • Hispanic Medical Association Information and links for Hispanic practitioners in all types of medicine.
  • Gay and Lesbian Medical Association The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) is the world’s largest and oldest association of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) health care professionals. The site provides good information and links.
  • Latino Medical Student Association The LMSA was founded to represent, support, educate, and unify US Latino(a) medical students.
  • Native American Medical Students ANAMS is a student organization representing Native American graduate health professions students of all types throughout the US and Canada.
  • Post Baccalaureate Program at Georgetown A one year experience at Georgetown U. School of Medicine for students from a disadvantaged background who show promise for a future in medicine.
  • Premeds of Color This Facebook page is dedicated to providing premedical students of color with an online resource to better prepare them to apply to medical school.
  • Student National Medical Association The SNMA is the nation’s oldest and largest independent, student-run organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color.
  • Summer Medical and Dental Education Program This site describes the SMDEP, a FREE (full tuition, housing, and meals) six-week summer academic enrichment program, that offers freshman and sophomore college students intensive and personalized medical and dental school preparation. Program components include a learning skills seminar, academic preparation, and clinical experience.
  • Women in Medicine The American Medical Women’s Assoc. is the only multispecialty organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women’s health.
